Community Input Survey by KAPONO
KAPONO is organized and excited to present a Community Input Survey. Much of the survey elements are taken from the Puna Community Development Plan (PCDP), to gain input as to what is important to our community and also guide the priority of implementation. Goal of Survey: Development of a Long Range Community Plan that gives us a voice in our future. All responses will be tabulated and presented at a community meeting at the end of September.

This Sunday we are pleased to announce that we will not only be hosting Agape Live Streaming With Michael Beckwith in the Hall, we will also have the extreme pleasure of a visit and a Dharma Talk
(truth talk) by our friend, Khampa, a Tibetan monk.

Khampa was forced to flee Tibet and seek exile in India where he
studied in a monastery for 10 years under the daily direction of the
Dali Lama’s favorite master teacher. He is a delightful person filled
with love and light and surprises, and I invite you to meet him! Feel
free to bring him questions to ask about truth, the meaning of life,
and Buddhism.
Please bring food to share. Agape live streaming begins promptly at
8:30 AM. Khampa will be attending, and his Dharma talk will follow
after a quick food break.

Part of the Agape donations will go this week to The Tibetan Monastery
Fund in India. For more info. and directions-Click Here!

to Ritually Empower & Magnify Our Vision of a Safe & Sustainable Puna!

Promptly at 5 pm on Sunday the 19th.

We want to create a slowing down of the forward rush to build more geothermal plants in our area, so that there can be health studies and environmental studies done before anything more happens.

We will be meeting every month to focus our minds and hearts in the magic that happens during group intentions. We may also add other concerns to our focus, over time.

We will be meeting to do this at 12-168 Kipuka St in Puna Palisades (Beverly’s House).

Announcing our Upcoming August Performance

The Puna Men’s Chorus (PMC) is coming back with a season that promises to be its best yet (and that’s saying a lot!) This year marks their fifth year as a chorus and to celebrate the occasion they’ve gone back through their performance files and picked out the most meaningful and popular songs they’ve performed to date. The show will be called "Flashback!"

For this production you can expect some beautiful singing, some good laughs, and some of the most beautiful choral music you’ll ever hear.

Three distinguished PMCalumni have been invited to return as Guest Artists. "Douglas Wayman, and his alter ego Janelle Neiman, have entertained audiences all over the country. This show will be Janelle’s debut with the Chorus. We have tried many times to keep Bob Kirk off our stage, but his fans adore him so he just keeps coming back. Daron Scarborough was the original Artistic Director, and one of the founders, of Puna Men’s Chorus. We are happy to see his smiling face with us once again"

"I can guarantee that you will be hearing (and seeing) things never before heard nor seen on any stage before!" says an animated Reinhardt. "Cowboys and boas, hippies and Broadway, ABBA and Hawaiian mele – this is the essence of four years of Puna Men’s Chorus, distilled into one show!"

Showtimes are at the following venues below:

Sunday August 12 HPP Community Center

Friday August 17 The Palace Theater, Hilo

Sunday August 19 Keauhou Beach Resort, Kona

Dear Friends and Supporters of Hawaii’s Volcano Circus (aka "S.P.A.C.E."),

We are writing to you today with an urgent plea for help. Our financial situation has become dire, and we need immediate assistance for our legal defense fund. We are so grateful for our friends and benefactors; so many of you wrote wonderful testimonial letters on our behalf to the Planning Commission. Thank you for supporting us, and please consider this opportunity to further contribute.

Please donate to our Legal Defense Fund here
As you may know, our recent meeting with the Windward Planning Commission on May 3rd was a success. The revocation of our Special Use Permit was deferred pending a follow up meeting in December. This will allow us time to submit an amendment to our permit so that we may resume events and activities that serve the Puna Makai community.

(For more information about the May 3rd meeting, click on these articles from the Tribune Herald: Click here for the article and here for the other one!

What you may not know is that the Special Use Permit (SP) process is an arduous and expensive one, especially when there are unforeseen challenges along the way. Because our budget is limited, we worked on this process for two years on our own, without legal assistance. However, we finally got to the point where we realized it was taking too long and we were not qualified to continue without the help of professionals. We hired attorneys that specialize in the SP process. They are the same attorneys that the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences ("HAAS") used to successfully get their SP.

Even though our attorneys are giving us professional courtesy discounts due to our non-profit status, we are still facing hefty legal bills. So far, we have raised and spent over $4000 towards our legal fees, which is 22% of last year’s total annual budget ($88,000). Payroll to our limited staff is now becoming severely compromised. Another debilitating challenge that we are facing right now is our inability to host performances and other fundraising events at our performing arts center, as ordered by the Planning Commission.

Hence, the purpose of this letter. We are soliciting donations for our legal defense fund and to cover emergency operating expenses. As a friend and supporter of SPACE and/or Bellyacres, we are reaching out to you and your network of resources to ask for help. Donations in every amount are valued and useful. Even $1 adds up. If you’ve ever had the desire to be a part of our mission and purpose, this is a fabulous way you can do it.

Please donate to our Legal Defense Fund here

Please spread the word. We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who is and has been a part of our community…literally and figuratively. Of course, we are always open to non-traditional or non-monetary donations, as well. Please contact us with your ideas. All donations are tax-deductible and receipts are available upon request.
