On the other hand, you’ll encounter paintings and creative writing in the form of poetry and novels. The artwork is created by a Vietnam Veteran named Rufus who is also the market owner. Rufus has an amazing history, which includes writing his first novel in a Vietnam prison camp.

Star of the Sea Painted Church is a part of the National Register of Historic Places. The current location of the church is not the original because it was moved multiple times during volcanic eruptions. The church’s beautiful artwork escaped the lava flow for many eyes to see.

The church contains amazing paintings that cover the surface of the walls as well as large stained glass mosaic pieces. Star of the Sea Painted Church is a perfect place to visit to embrace artwork and Roman Catholic history on the island.
